Digital smile design

+Services

Digital smile design is a treatment planning tool we use to custom design a persons smile. By using simple photography and digital scanning techniques we ‘digitize’ our patients. A smile is then created to harmonise with the face whilst keeping with ideal cosmetic tooth shape and proportions.

We use 3D printing to show our patients what the ideal smile will look like, not only on the computer, but also in the patients own mouth! Once you have accepted your proposed treatment plan, you can help co-design your own smile and shape of teeth!

By digitizing the patient, and by having a dental ceramist within our premises, we can recreate the planned smile into the end result. You will know what to expect from beginning to end. Our efficiency and predictability is much better when compared to more traditional approaches.

DSD planning allows us to more effectively plan your case. Our scanning and Invisalign straightening systems link seamlessly together, once again increasing the predictability and outcome for you as the patient.

FAQs About Digital Smile Design - The Dentist Leeds

What Is A Digital Smile Design?

Our patients deserve the best and at The Dentist, we can help you get the smile you want and deserve with Digital Smile Design. With this planning tool, we can take digital imagery and x-rays of your teeth. Using software that has been designed specifically for this purpose, we can use these images to show you exactly what your smile can look like. Imagine that – a try-before-you-buy smile! We can personalize your digital smile design for any type of treatment you need. Whether you need crowns, veneers or other restorative type of dental work, we can incorporate this with a digital smile design you will be thrilled with.

What Can I Expect At The Dentists?

In order to give you a Digital Smile Design, we need to have your current smile digitized. To get started, we will digitally scan your teeth and take other images, such as x-rays or CT scans, if necessary. These images are then uploaded to the most up-to-date software, specifically created for dentistry. This first stage allows us to put together a very accurate image of your current smile. We’ll then call you in to our clinic so we can work together to create the perfect smile for you.

What Are The Advantages Of Digital Smile Design?

Taking images and scans of your teeth is quick and easy. Once they are uploaded to our custom software, we can show you the options available to you and the finished product all on a computer screen. This has the distinct advantage of showing you how the smile will look in proportion to your other facial features. This makes the next step of planning and developing your newly designed smile easier for both you and your dentist. The images are then sent to the laboratory and your customized smile process begins. At The Dentist, we can use the technology available for a Digital Smile Design for a variety of different treatments.

How Long Will It Take To Complete My New Smile's Transformation?

The initial scanning of your teeth, gums and jaw can be done in a single visit to the dentist. This part of the process usually takes about 30 minutes. Depending on the type of work you need done, the rest of the process can take as little as one or two quick visits to the dentist or, for more complicated treatments such as teeth straightening, etc, it can take several months to over a year before your newly designed smile process is complete. Your dentist will be able to give you a more accurate timeline during your consultation.

Is This Procedure Painful?

The scanning and imagery needed to upload your current dental situation is completely non-invasive and painless. The procedures required to complete your desired smile may involve some pain. However, at The Dentist, we’ll ensure you are comfortable during the entire process. We’ll give you local anaesthetics as needed, and help you with pain management after your treatments.
