Dermal fillers

Filler treatments should be considered for a number of clinical and aesthetic reasons.  They can be used to correct naturally occurring asymmetries such as the lips. They can be used to enhance lip volume improving your side profile and to camouflage gummy smiles. Through defining the lip border we can give a more youthful appearance whilst also framing that all important smile!

With age we lose volume especially in the mid-face.  The cheeks begin to look flatter and the excess skin begins to fold around frequently used muscles such as the mouth causing deepening of nose to mouth lines.  We can use filler treatments to replace lost volume and therefore soften developing lines and wrinkles.

Fillers can be used to strengthen the skin around points of weakness or where forces are applied regularly, for example the side of the face you favour sleeping on.  Through placing small amounts of filler just beneath the skin surface we can support these weakened areas and encourage your natural deposition of collagen to structurally strengthen the skin.

The product; non-permanent filler treatments use Hyaluronic Acid in the form of a sterile non-animal based gel.  Hyaluronic acid is naturally occurring within the body, however with age the production slows leading to a reduction in volume.

the procedure

  • Local anaesthetic is often administered to the cleaned area to prevent any discomfort
  • The dermal filler is then injected via small needles or cannula, which only takes a few minutes
  • The effect of the treatment is visible immediately
  • Depending on the area treated, skin type and the injection technique, the filler effect can last between six and 12 months (usually six months for lips)
  • Follow-up treatments will help to maintain the look over time

Life Benefits:

  • Smoothed out skin surface for a more youthful appearance
  • Asymmetries corrected, volume replaced/improved, features more defined, all helping to improve confidence and self esteem
  • Non-surgical and painless procedure

FAQs About Dermal Fillers - The Dentist Leeds

Can I Have Dermal Fillers Done At My Dentist's Office?

The Dentist offers an extensive variety of services in dentistry, but we want our patients to receive the very best of care when it comes to the clinical and aesthetic aspects of your dental and oral health. For this reason, we have made a few aesthetic services available to our loyal patients so they can complete their winning smiles, with a smooth and stunning complexion.

What Are Dermal Fillers Made Of?

The key ingredient in dermal fillers is Hyaluronic Acid. This is a substance that occurs naturally in your body. Unfortunately, production is diminished with age so a little boost may be needed. In dermal fillers, the hyaluronic acid is in gel form and is completely sterile and non-animal based.

What Are The Benefits Of Dermal Fillers?

Before we go into the benefits of dermal fillers, the main point to make is that this procedure is non-surgical and relatively painless. Thinning lips can become plump and full again with the rest of your face also being able to look fuller and more youthful. You can walk into The Dentist looking your age, but walk out looking years younger.

How Long Does The Treatment Last?

You can usually go several months between dermal filler treatments and much of this depends on the area being treated and the type of injection technique used. Your skin type is also a key factor which will determine the frequency of repeating this procedure. In general, you can expect the treatment to last 12 months or more. However, the area around your lips may need to be touched up every 6 months or so. Follow up treatments are the best way to ensure you keep your youthful appearance.

How Long Before I Notice The Results?

One of the best reasons to have dermal fillers is that the result is instant. The weaker areas are plumped up while you are in the practitioner’s chair so you will walk out looking younger.

Is It Painful To Have Dermal Fillers?

Your practitioner will either give you a local anaesthetic before commencing your dermal filler treatment or they will apply an anaesthetic cream to numb the area being treated. The rest of the process is relatively painless although you are likely to experience some minor discomfort.
