Your gums surround the teeth in the jaws and help to support them. Looking after your gums is just as important as looking after your teeth.
Red and swollen gums that bleed when you brush them, could be a sign of gum disease. If left untreated it can develop further, causing damage to the supporting bone and can lead to tooth loss, requiring procedures to replace the missing tooth.
Fortunately, this can be avoided by having regular hygiene check-ups and a good daily hygiene routine to ensure your mouth stays clean and healthy. If you have a dental bridge, braces or a dental implant you will have specific hygiene needs that the hygienist will be able to assist you with.
Patients can choose from a ‘scale & polish’ OR ‘Airflow - advanced cleaning’ for plaque/tartar/stain removal treatment. The Airflow is designed to safely and gently remove all stains off the teeth bringing the shine back to your smile.
The treatment of gum disease requires very detailed measurements of the gum attachment to the tooth. The hygienist can then plan for cleaning of the tooth roots known as ‘root planing’. Regular visits to the hygienist are recommended for anyone prone to gum disease.
